Dive Instructor Dies in a Bizzare Pool Accident

From Divester.com comes a link to the Tyler Morning Herald in Texas.  The newspaper is running a story about a dive instructor who died during a class session – in the pool.

According to a press release from the Tyler Police Department, a husband and wife who were taking a diving class said they were preparing for a dive when they noticed the snorkel at the bottom of the indoor training pool. McAlpin entered the pool as the students were putting on their diving gear.

The students later realized the instructor had been at the bottom of the pool for several minutes with the weighted belt on and no breathing apparatus. The man pulled her from the pool and tried to revive her while the woman called for help, police said.

It is almost unfathomable to work out how this happened.  I can only imagine that she either got caught on something, hit her head jumping in or had some other medical condition.

Whatever the cause, condolences go out to this instructors family and friends on their loss.

And to the students who had this terrible experience in their dive course – a big thanks for doing something incredible and trying to save this persons life.  Although she did not survive, you people did the most amazing thing by trying.  Thanks.
