The organisers of the combined OZPac Dive Show and OZTeK5 Conference - originally scheduled to take place in Melbourne from the 20th to 22nd October 2006 - have announced that both events are to be cancelled.

The decision to do so was arrived at after numerous discussions with key diving organisations and an across-the-board range of dive industry sectors. While a number of companies remained committed to the concept of a broad-based consumer-driven dive show, several majors were of the opinion that attendance at the event would place too great a strain on their significantly reduced marketing budgets; especially given the economic down-turn presently being experienced by the entire global diving industry.

With many core organisations unable to make a firm commitment of support, the organisers, Richard Taylor and David Strike, believe that to have continued with the production of a broad-based Dive Show, (one that may not have lived up to the expectations that both exhibitors and visitors have a right to expect) would be irresponsible and not in the best long-term interests of the region’s diving industry.

Having previously staged the enormously successful and highly acclaimed, OZTeK4 Diving Technologies Conference and Exhibition, held in Sydney in March 2005, Taylor and Strike believe that their decision - while disappointing to so many - is, under the circumstances, the correct one to make. Now considering reverting back to a clearly focussed event based on an OZTeK-style format, the organisers have advised all of those organisations booking space at OZPac 2006 of the decision to cancel, and are refunding in full all deposits received.
